My Story

Linda Zygutis smiling in a casual portrait

I'm a Senior Instructional Designer with more than 10 years of experience in teaching, curriculum development, and learning & development. My career has taken me from restaurant operations and employee training to university teaching and instructional design, but the common thread has always been problem-solving.

I've spent my career working directly with people, understanding what they need, identifying what's getting in their way, and working together to find practical solutions. Whether I'm helping a customer, training an employee, supporting a student, or collaborating with a subject matter expert, I approach each challenge with curiosity, flexibility, and a commitment to getting things right.

I'm also resourceful by nature. I enjoy figuring out how to make things work, particularly when the resources are limited, the technology is unfamiliar, or the obvious solution isn't quite right. I'm comfortable rolling up my sleeves, learning what I need to learn, and finding a way forward.

My Approach

Good instructional design begins with understanding what needs to change and whether training is the right response. Tools and technologies evolve. The work remains grounded in sound pedagogy, collaboration, and real-world performance.

I use needs analysis, learning science, and qualitative and quantitative evidence to identify gaps and determine how training can help. Collaboration is central to that process. I work closely with stakeholders, subject matter experts, and cross-functional teams, bringing together different perspectives and areas of expertise to develop solutions that meet both learner needs and organizational goals.

My background in customer-facing roles has taught me the importance of listening, communicating clearly, building relationships, and adapting when circumstances change. I value the expertise that others bring to a project, and I believe the best solutions often emerge through thoughtful collaboration and a willingness to challenge assumptions together.

I also enjoy the creative and technical challenges of instructional design. Whether I'm developing interactive learning experiences, improving existing processes, or experimenting with generative AI, I'm willing to tackle unfamiliar problems and learn new tools along the way. I understand that resources, timelines, and priorities change, and I'm comfortable adapting my approach to make the best use of what's available.

Education & Qualifications

My PhD in English Literature from the University of Washington sharpened my ability to engage with complex material, analyze competing ideas, synthesize information, and communicate it clearly. My Master of Education in Learning Design and Technology from Arizona State University gives those skills a practical direction through learning science, instructional design, and evaluation.

Together, they shape how I approach complex learning scenarios: understanding the subject, collaborating with people who know it best, and designing accessible learning experiences that help others put what they’ve learned to use.
